Parakaleo Training Retreats Equip Church Planting Spouses in Mexico
A candlelight dinner, a soft breeze, and a serenade from Mexican church planter and musician Pablo Chevarrias. This was the scene at Parakaleo's Celebration Dinner for church planting spouses during a recent three-day training retreat in Monterey, Mexico. Led by Shari Thomas and Cristina Caires, Parakaleo's first international training retreat was attended by almost forty women from throughout Mexico. Ruth Garza, whose husband directs the Northern Mexico Church Planting Movement, hopes to bring Parakaleo's unique blend of coaching, caring, connecting and celebrating to every church planting spouse in the network, which currently includes a dozen churches. They are prayerfully planning to start six new churches in the next ten years, and Ruth and her husband recognize the importance of training and supporting ministry wives, who are heavily involved but have had little or no opportunity for training. During the retreat, women discussed many of the challenges in ministry, including time pressures, boundary ambiguities, calling, and how to apply the truths of the Gospel to their own hearts and those of the women they serve.
