Parakaleo Training Retreats Equip Church Planting Spouses to Equip Others
Parakaleo recently hosted a retreat for church planting spouses at a beautiful waterfront home in Lakeland, Florida. (Who says all teaching has to take place in the classroom?! We held one session in the lake! Remember, flexibility is an important value for church planting spouses!)
The first few days of training were geared for church planting spouses, and the last day included leadership training for those who want to become Parakaleo coaches or lead a local network group. The result? A new central Florida Parakaleo group will be starting soon under the leadership of Mary Lu Strawbridge.
The next training retreat will be held in Galveston (February 26- March 1, 2012), and a few spaces are still available (contact Tami Resch, tresch@pcanet.org, for information). At Parakaleo, we love church planting spouses, and we love equipping them to equip others!
Parakaleo’s director Shari Thomas and assistant director Tami Resch have been busy speaking to various church planting groups, especially since the publication of their book Beyond Duct Tape: Holding the Heart Together in a Life of Ministry. In August, they assisted the training team at Redeemer’s City to City global church planting Train the Trainers event in Princeton, New Jersey. The attendees included men from 15 different countries who are training leaders and planting churches. Resch and Thomas addressed how to develop Gospel community within training cohorts and infuse training relationships with Gospel dynamics.
