Common Ground Montgomery Summer Internship 2010

Common Ground Logo

Who is Common Ground Montgomery?
The mission of CGM is to glorify God by demonstrating His Kingdom through neighborhood transformation. We seek to do this in a distinctively Christian way by utilizing a strategy that combines living in the neighborhood and intentionally sharing our lives with those in the community, ministering in ‘holistic’ ways (addressing spiritual, emotional, and physical needs) and raising-up godly leaders and families.

What is the CGM Summer Internship 2010 all about?
The CGM Summer Internship is a nine-week experience on the West Side of Montgomery, Alabama. You will live, serve, learn, and grow with other college students, and neighborhood friends in a neighborhood that is under resourced and stressed in many ways. You will help run an 8 week summer camp during the day that consists of about 120 neighborhood children between the ages of 6-14 that will keep them away from idle behavior that leads to destruction. You will have an opportunity to lead them in daily small group Bible studies and character development training while also engaging in sports, community service, field trips, music and many other fun activities with them throughout the summer.

The staff and interns will have a corporate devotional (separate from your personal time alone with God) before we gather with the children every morning. Three evenings during the week the Common Ground Montgomery Staff will develop you in the areas concerning theological training focused on God’s heart for mercy, justice, racial reconciliation and practical application of God’s Word. You will also have free time available and planned socials for fun and fellowship and other activities during the week and on the weekends.

This demanding, yet challenging environment creates a great environment for you to have a life transforming experience that further equips you to live out the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. You will participate in our vision of long-term transformation through outreach and discipleship of those who live in a stressed and under resourced neighborhood.

What are the dates of the CGM Summer Internship 2010?
May 31st – July 30th, 2010

What else will we do?
Interns will be worshipping and working with area churches. This gives students an opportunity to learn and serve in the context of the local church.

What is the cost?
All Interns will be required to raise $2,500 for the summer. This fee includes rent and utilities for housing, three meals a day, training materials, T Shirts, and the cost of all activities for the entire 9 weeks of the summer. You will also receive $900 back throughout the 9 weeks in weekly $100 stipends.
