St. Roch Community Church, New Orleans LA

If in thinking through the revelation of God (the Bible) it stays in our heads and doesn't pass through to the heart unto the hands and feet, how will anyone know it has affected us?-PCA Pastor Randy Nabors, New City Fellowship

Sending a Mission Team to serve with St. Roch Community Church
Much work remains to be done in New Orleans and the St. Roch neighborhood post-Katrina. Nearly 30% of our neighborhood still lies in ruins. The need for outside help is still great.
With this being said, we are retooling our approach to mission teams for three reasons:
- Funding: Funding from Katrina claims has dried up, requiring new dollars to be raised for the remaining destruction. So while much work remains, there is little funding to make it happen. Therefore we can’t handle as many groups as we have been able to in the past.
- Depth: We want the experiences for mission teams to be mutually beneficial and to develop into long-term relationships that allow for a deeper impact on our city and in the lives of the mission team members. Our goal is not only to be a part of restoring our community but of restoring God’s heart for the poor as central to the Gospel message and central in the culture and lives of churches throughout the the nation. This translates into smaller mission teams for only a handful of weeks and weekends through out the year. Our target team size is between 8-12 people.
- Staff and Space: We have limited staff and volunteer housing resources. We are excited to join with Redeemer (PCA) in New Orleans to offer housing to our groups. Likewise our partnership allows the PCA presence to be strengthened in New Orleans and provides greater opportunity for meaningful work for mission teams. Both Redeemer and St. Roch operate on a very lean staff and simply don’t have the human resources to facilitate large groups. For information on Redeemer’s housing accommodations and fee structure please click here. Housing is limited to 20 guests.
Had not the Church responded to the greatest disaster in American history, New Orleans would not have experienced such tremendous rebirth, both physically and spiritually. We invite you to be a part of the rich history of God’s redemption in our city. Please contact Ben McLeish (ben@strochcc.org or 504.940.5771 x104) to schedule your trip.
