Ethnos Relief Fund FAQ

What is the Ethnos Coalition?

The Ethnos Coalition is a collaborative community of ethnic minority ministries under the Presbyterian Church in America, Mission to North America (PCA/MNA).

This includes the leadership of African American, Haitian American, Hispanic American, and Korean Ministries, the Korean American Leadership Initiative, Native American and First Nations Ministries, the Network of Portuguese-Speaking Churches, Urban and Mercy Ministries, and Refugee and Immigrant Ministry.

What is the immediate need the Relief Fund has been created to address?

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a disproportionate impact on persons in ethnic minority communities, including many of our brothers and sisters in Christ, active members of small PCA congregations.

Both the coronavirus itself and the resulting job losses have severely affected hard-working low-wage ethnic minority families. Many quickly exhausted their limited savings, and received no government relief funds. Their pantries are bare, with little to feed their families. Rent and utilities are overdue, and many of their pre-COVID-19  jobs no longer exist.  Some who in the past were generous with others must now turn to their church for help as they themselves struggle to find new footing as the altered economy begins to reopen.

What is the Biblical motivation for this initiative?

“Bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.” “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” Galatians 6:2, 10

How will these relief funds be distributed?

The deacons of the local ethnic minority churches can best discern the needs of their members. As local capacity is stretched to the maximum, they can apply for MNA relief funds:   The Ethnos disbursement committee will prayerfully review applications bi-monthly. Funds will be awarded to expand the capacity of these churches to address the greatly increased needs in their congregations.
