Letter to MNA Chairpersons

June 1, 2020

Dear MNA Chairperson,

The physical and economic challenges of the past few months have disrupted all of our lives, but have caused particular devastation to some of the most vulnerable persons within the PCA, especially in small, predominantly-minority PCA churches, many of them located in economically-challenged areas.

Many of these PCA minority brothers and sisters in Christ quickly exhausted their meager savings and have no access to credit.  They are facing genuine hunger and even the danger of eviction.  As the economy reopens, many are finding that their former jobs are gone and new jobs are virtually non-existent. The unpaid bills accumulated during the shutdown threaten to snowball and overwhelm them indefinitely. Many who were previously self-sufficient and among the first to help others are now turning to their trusted local PCA churches for help as their families face exceptional privation.

The leaders of the ethnic minority ministries of PCA Mission to North America, collaborating as the MNA Ethnos Coalition, request that you as MNA Chairperson forward this urgent request and information to churches within your Presbytery for their prayerful consideration.

The MNA Ethnos Relief Initiative (https://pcamna.org/ethnos-coalition-relief-fund-for-ethnic-ministries/ )- has been created to raise funds that can be distributed through the deacons of heavily impacted PCA minority churches in response to the significant increase in crucial requests for assistance from brothers and sisters in Christ whose wages were terminated due to the shutdowns. Many have received neither stimulus payments nor other government assistance, and now have no source of income. Their needs are urgent.

II Corinthians 8 and 9 reports that when the believers in the church in Jerusalem were experiencing an extended period of great hardship, the Gentile churches responded sacrificially – and with joy – sending offerings to relieve the suffering of their brothers and sisters in Christ. We strongly believe that this present time offers our PCA churches a similar opportunity to demonstrate the love of Christ in practical ways in the midst of unprecedented need among fellow believers.

We urge every PCA congregation to prayerfully consider giving generously to the MNA Ethnos Relief Initiative, through the MNA website https://secure.egsnetwork.com/donate/A3372935F203410 or by designating funds through the PCA Foundation.
