MNA Disaster Response – Maui Fires

Posted on
August 15, 2023

On August 8, 2023, one of the deadliest fires to impact this country in over a century overran the city of Lahaina on the island of Maui. Wind gusts of over 80 mph swept what began as a small brushfire that started from a downed power line into an inferno in a matter of minutes. Many folks jumped into the ocean to escape the thunderous, deadly fires. The number of deaths has topped 106 and the search continues. Thousands of structures have been impacted, with many completely destroyed.

Although there are no PCA churches on the island of Maui and the closest PCA presence is in Honolulu which is over 100 miles away, MNA Disaster Response staff is continuing to reach out and work with the leadership of the Northern CA Presbytery of which Hawaii is a member, to determine how best to help.
