A Resurgence of Church Planting

There are images burned in my mind like chapters of a novel. One such is of our oldest when she was not yet two years old. Grasping a diaper changing pad that extended well above her head so that she could not see, she toddled away from me towards the trailer that held all our new church planting equipment. We had just finished our first service, and everyone was helping to break down what we had set up – and she wanted to join. This powerful image shows us something remarkable about church planting.

The Psalmist declares in Psalm 78:4, “We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.” Nothing teaches us that worship is about serving the Lord and not ourselves quite like church planting.  In this month’s Multiply episode, we hear of God’s work in Aurora, Colorado, with Meaghan and Paul May, their family, and those whom God is calling to join them. Their story, though unique, is not alone.

The Lord, by his mercy, is moving among us for church planting in ways we have not seen in more than five years! By God’s grace, we will see over 40 new churches started in 2025, up nearly three times from the pandemic low. What is happening? God is at work, claiming what rightfully belongs to him, and using his people to tell of his glorious deeds and the wonders he has done.

We celebrate the work of God in Aurora, Colorado; Ocean Springs, Mississippi; Irvine, California; Hoover, Alabama; and so many more. We beseech the Lord of the harvest to continue the resurgence of church planting in the United States and Canada. May God call some of us or our children to the work of church planting: to have a front row seat in serving the Lord by his grace and for his glory.
